Assisted dying / suicide proposals in the United Kingdom and surrounding Crown Dependencies: a comparative table

To enable Parliamentarians (and others) better to understand the state of play with legislative proposals around the United Kingdom and surrounding Crown Dependencies, I have prepared a table comparing the relevant features of the basis of the Bills (or, in the case of Jersey, published proposals) as they stand at 16 November 2024 in England & Wales, Scotland, the Isle of Man and Jersey.

The table can be found here.

I will be speaking to this table at a webinar to be held on 20 November, along with other speakers examining what palliative care entails, how capacity is approached in other frameworks around the world, and the judicial role proposed in Kim Leadbeater MP’s Bill.  More details can be found here.

I have also prepared versions of both Kim Leadbeater’s Bill and the Scottish Bill with questions that the relevant legislative bodies might wish to consider in their deliberations.
