Today (15 June) is the 10th World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and therefore the ideal opportunity to highlight Action on Elder Abuse. The conference that they are hosting today – and which I am attending as I write – highlights just what excellent work that they do, and how far we have to go. In particular, having just heard a truly outstanding presentation by Paul Greenwood, Deputy District Attorney for San Diego, on the approach adopted in California and the offences of elder abuse enacted in law there, shows us – yet again – we can and should raise our heads above the parapet to look to other places for both legislative and “cultural” inspiration.
[For those interested in the Californian position, you may wish to read testimony from Paul Greenwood to the US Senate here].
