Capacity, complexity and time – a discussion with Gareth Owen

The latest ‘in conversation from the shed’ is with the psychiatrist, Dr Gareth Owen, in which we discuss what makes some capacity assessments complex, some tips for addressing messiness, and the importance of time.

The website of the Mental Health and Justice Project Gareth leads, and I work on, is here; you can find an article deriving from this project that we have co-written about capacity in the Court of Protection here; and you can learn more about the masterclasses on complex capacity assessment that we run for Maudsley Learning here.  You can also find out about the Mental Health, Ethics and Law MSc we co-lead at King’s College London here.

A primer on the fundamentals of capacity from the shed series can be found here.
